Maya Aaronson is the writer of The Starheart Saga, a raygun gothic space opera. Read more about it here. She's more Diane Duane famous, not GRRM famous, which is to say if your character is in well-read nerdy circles, they probably know her. Much like Diane Duane, she keeps a Tumblr and is actually pretty hip with the cool kids. She often goes on the convention circuit. Her other popular series is a dark urban fantasy called City of Broken Glass, which takes place in a mirror universe Locke City where magic is real. It's kind of Dresden Files with a female protagonist. She also wrote two stand-alone novels, Sunward Home, a hard sci-fi novel, and Crystal and Clockwork, a novel that everyone would have called steampunk if that had been a thing in the 90s.
Maya also teaches fencing at the local Locke City Fencing Club (which isn't a club in the after school sense, but rather an Actual Nationally Known Fencing Club Thing (see DC fencing for an example!) and is known for being really damn spry for a 60 year old.
She is Daiuskenejo Bitou's aunt (if he gets in, anyway). She cannot pronounce his name, much to her dismay, so just calls him Beat.
